Car2go adds 4-door Mercedes to its Calgary fleet

CALGARY – If you like the idea of driving a Mercedes but don’t fancy the costs associated with purchasing one, there’s now an alternative Calgarians can try.

Carsharing program car2go announced on Monday that 25 new four-door Mercedes B-Class vehicles had been added to its Calgary fleet as part of a pilot program.

“As our members embark on new life events – from moving into new homes to building their own families – we want to continue to provide options that make transportation easy and convenient,” said General Manager of car2go Calgary Jon Wycoco in a news release.

The company describes the new vehicles as a roomy, versatile alternative to car2go’s signature smart car vehicle.

Through the duration of the pilot program, all trips in the new Mercedes B-Class vehicles will be available for 41 cents per minute, the same cost as car2go’s two-door vehicles.

The company said they are unsure when the pilot program will end, or if the vehicles will become permanent additions.

“We’ll be looking at several factors including what our members’ responses are like, how well they’re using the vehicles, overall what is the general sentiment and overall usage of these vehicles,” said Wycoco.

Wycoco said the car2go app will allow users to specifically search for four-door vehicles instead of the usual two-door.

There are currently over 84,000 car2go members in Calgary.
