Future doctor? 11-year-old helps deliver baby brother when mom goes into early labour

An 11-year-old boy in Georgia has taken his brand-new ‘big brother’ role to a whole new level after helping deliver his baby brother when his mother went into early labour.

Kenyarda Dukes was given quite a scare Thursday morning at her Marietta home.

“All of a sudden I couldn’t get to the bed anymore, so I just collapsed on the floor,” she explained.

Her son, James, was the only one able to help at the time. His father was at work.

“I called 911. They told me what to do. To get towels and wrap the baby up,” James told WSB-TV.

Royal Dukes was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces. His older brother said the experience has inspired him to become a doctor. After all, he said, he doesn’t like it when people are ‘hurting or down’ and wants to fix them.

The physician who was supposed to deliver Royal, Dr. Eric Brown, said he was impressed and might have a potential intern on his hands.

“I’ve never heard of anything like this. I think James is very special. I’m anticipating James to spend some time with me at the office, and we’ll help James make his dream come true to be a physician,” Dr. Brown told WGNO.
