WINNIPEG — It’s the 5th most common form of cancer in this country and this Sunday, Bladder Cancer Canada is asking the public to lace up for the cause.
8300 people will be diagnosed in 2015. It’s the fourth most common form of cancer in men, and the 12th most common in women.
The most commmon symptom when identifying someone may have bladder cancer is blood in the urine, which occurs in more than 80% cases.

Bladder Cancer Canada’s Ken Klimchuk is not only the organizer of this year’s event but he was also diagnosed with bladder cancer at the age of 37.
After chemotherapy, surgery and a recurrence,14 years later, Klimchuk is cancer free and explains why its so important to walk for those battling the disease.
“Unfortunately we have approximately 40% to 50% mortality,a recurrence within 5 years. The numbers are so terrible. We’re number 15 in the government for funding, and that’s why it’s so important to fund raise because we just don’t have a lot of money,” Klimchuk explained.
The walk and run, sponsored by Global News and parent company Shaw Media is taking place in cities across the country.
Here in Winnipeg, the 4th annual walk is set for 1 pm at Assiniboine Park Sunday afternoon. The goal is to have 200 participants running for bladder cancer research and awareness.
