“Little plumber” Paul Myers donates $25 million to Lions Gate Hospital

WATCH: It’s the largest charitable donation to a hospital foundation by any person in B.C. history. Lions Gate Hospital today received $25 million from an extremely generous North Shore businessman. Grace Ke has that story.

The largest donation ever to the Lions Gate Hospital was given today by a man who described himself as “just a little plumber.”

“I’m just a plumber who worked hard and had some good luck in my life,” said Paul Myers, owner of North Vancouver’s Keith Plumbing and Heating Co. Ltd., after the announcement of his $25 million donation.

“When I thought about where I could have the greatest impact, I immediately thought of Lions Gate Hospital. I learned about the impact the Foundation is having and its exciting plans for the future and knew this is where I wanted to make a difference.”

Myers, now 84 years old, has lived on the North Shore for 80 years, and started as an apprentice with Keith Plumbing and Heating Co.

His donation is the largest single donation made to a hospital foundation by an individual in British Columbia’s history.

The money will be used to support redevelopment of the Lions Gate Hospital site, although planning is still in the early stages. In honour of the donation, the hospital’s south acute tower will be named after Myers.
