Calgary school named after Canada’s first female astronaut

Future site of new Calgary school to be named for Dr. Roberta Bondar.

Canada’s first female astronaut will have a school named after her in southwest Calgary.

The new Aspen Woods school on Strathcona Drive will be known as Dr. Roberta Bondar Elementary.

It will hold up to 600 CBE students in kindergarten to grade 4, and is expected to open in January of 2017.

Bondar was the first Canadian female astronaut in space when she flew aboard the space shuttle Discovery in 1992.
