Diane Kruger, Alice Winocour talk ‘Disorder’ at TIFF premiere

Hollywood is full of stories of soldiers during wartime, but very rarely do we get a glimpse of life after a soldier’s time in the army is done. Alice Winocour’s Disorder gives us that glimpse.

Far From The Madding Crowd star Matthias Schonaerts plays Vincent, a soldier in the French army who, after displaying symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is pulled from active duty. Finding work as a hired security guard at a luxurious seaside villa, Vincent is thrust into the role of sole protector when the party’s host heads to Geneva on business and leaves his beautiful wife, played by Diane Kruger, and his son in Vincent’s care.

A unique spin on the home-invasion genre, Winocour’s ability to slowly submerge the audience into a state of “disorder” is only made better by the performances by Schonaerts and Kruger.

ET Canada caught up with Kruger on the red carpet at the premiere and the actress spoke to Winocour’s ability to “mix genres” saying, “she has a real deep psychological connection to Mattias’ character to understand what he’s gone through, but I also like that my character, who doesn’t …who’s not aware of what he’s going through and that not understanding of what’s going on, I think, make the attraction between us strange… sweeter, it’s ambiguous which I liked.”

Winocour, who wrote the character for Schonaerts, spoke about the detail that went into his character, telling ET Canada “we met a lot of soldiers and also we worked on his body …the tattoos you see in the film, also the scars on his head and we thought about that his body had to tell his story.”
