At first glance, it may seem like any other art exhibit. But take a closer look and you may see some familiar sights.
Pictures of Okanagan Lake, the Sails in downtown Kelowna and the Bennett Bridge plaster the walls of the Kelowna Art Gallery.
Last month, the gallery put out a call to the community for landscape-based, Okanagan-inspired artwork. Organizers were hoping to set a new world record for the most number of 4×6 inch works of art in a gallery.

The response was more than they had dreamed.
Kris Johnson, marketing coordinator for the Kelowna Art Gallery, says he expected 2,500 submissions for the project. The gallery ultimately ended up with more than 4,100 postcards. Most of the submissions were from the Okanagan but there were also pieces from the Lower Mainland, Texas and even all the way from India.
The gallery now holds the new world record, according to recordsetter.com. Organizers are in the process of submitting information to the more well-known Guinness Book of World Records.
There were so many submissions that the pieces now spill out into a nearby hallway in the art gallery.
Many of the pictures seem to encapsulate the essence of the Okanagan: apples, wine and even the elusive Ogopogo. Pieces were submitted by everyone from students at local schools to professional painters.
“It is really powerful when you have a hundred people doing something but when you have thousands of people doing something like and creating something like this, it is pretty powerful,” Johnson said.
