WATCH ABOVE: A Quebec man is facing charges after two men he allegedly tried to smuggle into the United States drowned after the watercraft they were travelling on capsized near Cornwall Island on Wednesday.
MONTREAL – Global News has learned that a Quebec man is facing charges in connection with the drowning deaths of two men earlier this week.
The Akwesasne Mohawk police opened an investigation into the deaths after the Sea-Doo they were travelling on capsized near Cornwall Island on the St-Lawrence River Wednesday morning.
The names of the deceased have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
A third passenger, and the operator of the Sea-Doo, Luis J. McDonald were both rescued.
The investigation revealed that the three passengers had recently arrived to Canada from India. It is believed they were trying to illegally enter the United States.
McDonald, 36, of Syne, Quebec, has been charged by Akwesasne Mohawk Police with two counts of criminal negligence causing death, conspiracy to commit an indictable offense and breach of probation.
