The most recent business forced to close its doors is Deseo Bistro on Osborne Street. The restaurant had to close two separate times just days apart.
Manitoba Health listed numerous critical violations, including inoperable plumbing, inability to dishwash, improper storage temperatures of potentially hazardous foods, obstructed hand wash sink at the food preparation area and poor general sanitation for the closure on Aug. 25 that spanned three days.

The Deseo Bistro closed again on Aug. 31 for the day. Manitoba Health listed the reason for that closure as dishwasher not sanitizing dishes to 50 ppm chlorine, 3-compartment sink not equipped/maintained for manual dishwashing.
Other recent closures include a three-day shutdown for IGI BBQ Grill & Sushi Bistro because Manitoba Health found food stored under insanitary conditions and failed to ensure the dishwasher is capable of sanitizing all utensils and tableware.
Last month Mooshiro Japanese Cuisine was also forced to close for five days because Manitoba Health found the dishwasher failed to sanitize tableware and equipment food and non-food contact surfaces were not clean and sanitized. During the inspection the floors and walls were “filthy” in the kitchen and no sanitizing agent was detected on the wiping cloths.
Along with closures, Manitoba Health’s website lists businesses convicted of health violations.

The Round Table Steakhouse was fined for two separate charges — $487.15 for failing to take effective measures against the entry and presence of rodents and $673.65 for preparing and storing food under insanitary conditions. The failed inspection happened back in June with the fines issued in July.
The Little Caesar’s Pizza on Ness Avenue was fined $349.65 for failing to maintain a food handling establishment in good repair and kept clean stemming from an inspection in April.
The restaurants are only allowed to reopen when the deficiency is addressed and approval is given by a health inspector.
