Woman charged in fatal Edmonton motorcycle crash

EDMONTON – A 21-year-old woman who was driving a pickup truck that hit a motorcycle on May 21, fatally injuring the rider, has been charged.

Police said Thursday she was charged with making an unsafe left turn.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, a serious injury collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle was reported to police. It happened on Princess Elizabeth Avenue near 106 Street.

Police said the pickup truck was heading east on Princess Elizabeth Avenue in the left turning lane, to turn north onto 106 Street. The motorcycle was heading west on Princess Elizabeth Avenue. The truck started to turn left and collided with the motorcycle.

The 48-year-old motorcycle driver died from his injuries in hospital on Friday, May 22.

There have been 25 traffic fatalities in Edmonton so far this year. This crash was the city’s second fatal motorcycle crash.
