CALGARY – Two men suffered serious injuries after scrambling in Kananaskis Country Wednesday afternoon.
Public safety specialist Matt Mueller said Thursday both fell off a sheer cliff face while on the Middle Sister, one of the Three Sisters mountains near Canmore, Alta. He said a third man called 911 but was uninjured.
The two others, who were from “out of town,” had to be rescued by helicopter. One was airlifted to a Calgary hospital.

“Because of where they were, we had to use the sling helicopter,” said Mueller. “One hundred feet off the ground the rescuers get dropped off and do what they have to for the patient: hook him up and fly out.”
STARS Air Ambulance said it was dispatched at 2:01 p.m. Wednesday and landed at a staging area near Three Sisters, a trio of mountains near Canmore Alta. Kananaskis fire crews and Banff EMS were on scene.
The man landed at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary at 3:27 p.m. Officials didn’t provide an update on either man’s condition.
