Calgary Flames sign captain Mark Giordano to 6-year contract

CALGARY – The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Mark Giordano to a six-year contract.

The Flames captain, an all-star last season, had 11 goals and 37 assists in 61 games last season before sustaining a season ending injury on Feb. 25.

Before his injury, Giordano anchored an improved Flames defence that helped the team make the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

The Toronto native has 66 goals and 179 in 510 career games, all with Calgary.
