More cases of exploding glass oven doors

There’s growing concern over the safety of glass oven doors.

On Monday, Global News highlighted cases of unexplained exploding oven windows.

Since then, we’ve been informed of four other instances where this has happened in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Three of the reports involve a Kenmore oven, while the fourth oven was a Kitchen Aide.

What’s even more disturbing is that some of the glass oven doors shattered when the ovens weren’t even being used.

Rod Kruetzfeld says he was on the other side of the kitchen when it happened to him.

Rod says his Kitchen Aide oven been replaced, but after seeing and hearing about other similar cases, Rod reported it to Federal product safety investigators.

The three other cases involve Kenmore ovens from Sears.

Sears has just announced it will inspect any glass doors free of charge, and if you’ve already paid for a repair or replacement they will refund the service call charge.

Statement from Sears Canada:

“The safety of our customers is very important to Sears. In continuing to help ensure the safety of our customers, Sears Canada will perform a free diagnostic inspection of their Kenmore range by Sears technicians for any customer that contacts us to inspect the door glass. This information will be posted in the Product Safety Information section of our corporate info area on http://www.sears.ca.

In recognition of the inconvenience caused by this matter, customers who notify Sears who have already received service from Sears on their range for glass on the door, and whose repair was not covered under warranty, will be refunded the charge of that service call.”
