Young woman killed in crash on Highway 8

WATCH ABOVE: The RCMP are investigating what caused a fatal crash on Highway 8 on Wednesday. Jenna Freeman reports.

CALGARY – A woman in her early 20s was killed in a two car crash west of Calgary on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 8 and Range Road 31 just before 1 a.m. for a head-on collision between a semi-trailer and a car.

RCMP say the car crossed the centre line while travelling westbound, hitting the eastbound semi-trailer. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a man in his late 20s, was rushed to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with minor injuries.

Highway 8 was closed for over seven hours while crews worked to clear the scene. It reopened just after 8:30 a.m.
