Last Election: NDP incumbent Megan Leslie defeated the Liberal candidate, Stan Kutcher, by nearly 12,000 votes.
History: The NDP has held this seat since 1997, when former NS NDP leader Alexa McDonough claimed the seat. The race in the past several elections has been between the NDP and the Liberals, with the Conservative/PC party finishing third since 2000.
Demographics: 12.7 per cent of residents in Halifax were immigrants as of the 2011 National Householder Survey, the second highest percentage in Atlantic Canada.
