Saskatoon gets Lingerie Football League team

The hint was dropped last week and now it’s official – Saskatoon is getting a Lingerie Football League (LFL) team.

The official announcement was made Tuesday morning.

“We are excited that the LFL has chosen the city of Saskatoon and Credit Union Centre as the official home of the Saskatoon franchise,” Will Lofdahl, CEO of Credit Union Centre, said in a release.

“The current level of excitement, fan fare and media attention around LFL Football coming to Canada will certainly translate in our city and building.”

The LFL started up in 2009 in the United States and according to the league, drew record television audiences and had sell-out crowds last year and the league believes it will have even greater success in Canada.

“While we have enjoyed unprecedented success in the U.S., we believe LFL Canada will actually draw more success,” said Mitchell Mortaza, founder and chairman of LFL.

“The fanatical culture that exists around sports throughout the country and specifically within the Saskatchewan Province, was the primary catalyst behind the formation of LFL Canada and the naming of the two Saskatchewan franchises.”

Last week, LFL awarded a franchise to Regina and Lofdahl expects a rivalry will form between the two teams.

The league has also announced teams in Toronto and BC.

LFL Canada will launch this fall.
