WINNIPEG — Frantic moments for a mom in downtown Winnipeg Thursday after she accidentally locked her baby in her car.

“Sheer panic,” said Paula, the mother.

She had just put her 13 month old girl into a car seat on St. Mary Ave. and Kennedy St. when she closed the door. She then realized her keys were inside and called 911.

“I looked around for something to break the window with,” said Paula.

Luckily she had turned the command start on before closing the door, which meant the air conditioning was running.

Emergency crews quickly arrived and smashed the window. Her baby girl was ok.

Paula told Global News her vehicle is not supposed to lock when the keys are inside.

At the time the temperature in Winnipeg was 32 degrees Celsius.
