Samsung teases Gear S2 smartwatch

TORONTO – Samsung had its very own “one more thing” moment during its Unpacked 2015 event Thursday. The tech giant provided a sneak peek at one of its upcoming gadgets – the Gear S2 smartwatch.

The event itself focused on the unveiling of the Galaxy Note phablet and the larger version of its curved-screen Galaxy S6 smartphone – but the Gear S2 stole the spotlight at the end of the show.

Although the company didn’t go into any details about the device, many were quick to draw comparisons to the Apple Watch based on one image of the app screen on the Gear S2.

“The watch has a distinctive round design, but it is obviously taking some UI cues from Apple, too. In particular, the circular icons on the app launcher interface look like they were lifted straight from the Apple Watch,” wrote Gizmodo reporter Mario Aguilar.
