Summary: It was late NDP leader Jack Layton who won this riding for the NDP in 2004. After Layton’s death, Craig Scott held the seat for the party in a 2012 by-election. He is seeking re-election in 2015. The Conservative party had a stumble in this riding when it dropped its candidate on September 7, after confirming Tim Dutaud appeared in several YouTube videos making prank calls.

Boundaries: The boundaries of this riding have not changed since the last election. It reaches to the Don River in the north and goes south to Lake Ontario and Aquatic Park. This riding includes Danforth Village and Riverdale.

Last Election: In the 2012 by-election, the NDP’s Craig Scott defeated Liberal Grant Gordon by 9,995 votes, a margin of nearly 31 per cent.

History: This riding was created in 1976 as Broadview-Greenwood, and was renamed Toronto-Danforth in 2000. Bob Rae, then running for the NDP, was the first MP elected here. The NDP kept the seat until 1988 when Liberal Dennis Mills was elected. He held the seat until 2004, when he was defeated by Jack Layton.
