Federal Election 2015: Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas riding results

Real time live results available on Monday, October 19 2015 after polls close. Overall results will be available here.

Summary: A new riding created from three different Hamilton-area ridings, this electoral district will elect a rookie MP in 2015.

Boundaries: A sprawling suburban area to the west of Hamilton’s centre, this riding includes Ancaster and Dundas, along with Westdale Village and the areas southwest of Mohawk College.

Last Election: This is a new seat created mostly from Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale (which elected Conservative MP David Sweet by 19.4 per cent in 2011), but also parts of Hamilton Centre (which elected NDP MP David Christopherson by 30.6 per cent in 2011) and Hamilton Mountain (which elected NDP MP Chris Charlton by 14.1 per cent in 2011). None of them are running here.

Had this riding existed in the last election, the Conservatives would have taken it by 14.2 per cent more votes than the NDP (based on polling results).

History: The Dundas and Ancaster parts of this riding have typically favoured Conservative candidates, while the areas on the northwest and southwest outskirts of Hamilton’s traditional boundaries have tended to prefer Liberal candidates historically, and NDP candidates more recently.

Demographics: The median income in this riding was $47,636 in the 2011 National Household Survey, over $10,000 more than any of the other three suburban-urban ridings in Hamilton.
