TORONTO — Donald Trump’s latest inflammatory comments have prompted an unusual social media movement: women are messaging Trump about their periods.

Trump’s perceived suggestion that Fox News host Megyn Kelly was menstruating while moderating last week’s GOP debate has women, and some men, firing back. The response? Periods are not an insult, in hashtag form of course.

“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” said Trump regarding Kelly in an interview on CNN Friday night.

The remarks follow on the heels of Trump calling Kelly a “bimbo” after Thursday’s Republican debate.

The spat began with a question from Kelly to Trump during the live debate, with the Fox News host asking the presidential hopeful about his history of referring to women as “fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals.

After his remarks Friday came across as period-shaming Kelly, Trump backtracked. But clearly the damage had been done.

Meanwhile a recent poll, conducted by Morning Consult of 746 self-identified Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, showed Trump maintaining a commanding lead despite the controversy.
