Former Major champion Corey Pavin plays Shaw Charity Classic with kidney stones

CALGARY – It’s been an interesting week for 1995 U.S. Open Champion Corey Pavin at the Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary.

He went from thinking he may have to withdraw from the event on Wednesday, to shooting five under 65 on Friday in Round 1.

Pavin played with a very painful kidney stone that forced him to miss Thursday’s pro-am.

Pavin said it’s not something he’s ever had to deal with before.

“I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy,” he said.

The 55-year-old was in obvious discomfort after finishing his round on Friday, but said the pain “comes and goes.”

He hopes he’ll feel well enough to play through it when he wakes up Saturday morning.

Pavin is in contention, and sits just three shots off the lead heading into the second round.
