Federal Election 2015: Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek riding results

Real time live results available on Monday, October 19 2015 after polls close. Overall results will be available here.

Summary: An essentially new riding surrounding Saskatoon on three sides, Conservative MP Kelly Block seeks re-election in Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek.

Boundaries: A rural seat that broadly extends outward from Saskatoon as far north as Leask and Duck Lake, as far east as Humboldt, as far west as Biggar, and as far southwest as Rosetown.

Last Election: This is a new seat created from the rural areas of Saskatoon-Humboldt (which elected Conservative MP Brad Trost by 17.5 per cent in 2011), Saskatoon-Wanuskewin (which elected Conservative MP Maurice Vellacott by 27 per cent) and Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar (which elected Conservative MP Kelly Block by 1.8 per cent).

Block is the Conservative running in this riding. Had it existed in the last election, the Conservatives would have taken it by 43.9 per cent more votes than the NDP (based on polling results), because the NDP received the vast majority of their votes in Saskatoon, while the Conservatives received most of their votes in the rural areas outside the city.

History: From 2000 to 2013, Saskatoon and the surrounding areas had been divided up into four ridings that contained part of Saskatoon, and part of the surrounding rural areas. In all five elections, the Conservatives took all four seats.

The redistribution, which gave Saskatoon three seats to itself, was heavily opposed by the Conservative party.

Demographics: 15.2 per cent of people have Ukranian roots, the tenth highest number in Canada.

Candidates

Conservative: Kelly Block, MP since 2008

NDP: Glenn Wright, manager of the McClean Lake mine

Liberal: Alex Slusar, National Field Agent for the Liberal Party

Green: Lynn Oliphant, retired veterinary professor
