TORONTO – Montreal writer/director Anne Emond will receive a special Genie Award recognizing outstanding achievement by a first-time filmmaker.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, which runs Canada’s version of the Oscars, says Emond is getting the Claude Jutra Award for her film “Nuit #1.”

The academy’s interim head Helga Stephenson describes the film as “a very daring and accomplished debut feature.”
The film centres on a couple who meet at a rave and spend an intimate night together.
“Nuit #1” is also nominated for two Genie Awards: best original screenplay for Anne Emond and best actress for Catherine De Lean.
The 32nd Annual Genie Awards will be presented March 8 in Toronto.
