The academy’s interim head Helga Stephenson describes the film as “a very daring and accomplished debut feature.”

The film centres on a couple who meet at a rave and spend an intimate night together.

“Nuit #1” is also nominated for two Genie Awards: best original screenplay for Anne Emond and best actress for Catherine De Lean.

The 32nd Annual Genie Awards will be presented March 8 in Toronto.
