TORONTO — Actor James Woods filed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit Wednesday against a Twitter user, alleging defamation and invasion of privacy.

The 68-year-old star alleged the Twitter user, @abelisted, referred to him as a “cocaine addict” on July 15.

“Woods is not now, nor has he ever been, a cocaine addict,” reads the complaint, filed in L.A. Superior Court.

Woods, who has 239,000 Twitter followers, claimed the Twitter user is behind a months-long “malicious on-line campaign … to discredit and damage” his reputation.

The defendant is a “John Doe” but Woods’ lawyers hope the suit will “unmask and reveal” his or her identity and put a chill in “anyone else using social media to propagate lies and do harm.”

The account for @abelisted was not online Wednesday.

The lawsuit is seeking $10 million plus punitive damages for each cause of action.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
