CALGARY – A Calgary man accused of killing his wife made a brief appearance in court on Thursday.
Joshua Burgess appeared in the Calgary Courts Centre via CCTV. He’s charged with the 2nd degree murder of Shannon Madill (Burgess), who was reported missing in late November, 2014.

Her body was recovered earlier this month at a home the two shared on Spiller Road S.E.
Defence lawyer Allan Fay says Burgess has been denied legal aid. He will now make a Rowbotham application, which asks the court to force the government to pay for legal aid.
The case has been put over until August 25.
