SASKATOON – Five people are facing charges following a disturbance late Sunday evening at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre. It was the second disturbance in less than a week at the facility in the North Industrial area.

Staff at the centre called police around 11:30 p.m. asking them to be on standby in case help was needed in dealing with the disturbance.

It ended shortly after midnight without police involvement.

The five men, between 18 and 34, are facing charges of participating in a riot and interfering with the lawful operation of a correctional centre.

On July 21, police were called to the facility for a disturbance. Six inmates, ranging in age from 18 to 31, were charged with escaping custody and mischief.

Corrections staff moved 15 inmates to other facilities in the province after the disturbance.
