CALGARY – The Calgary Zoo has broken the ice on a new exhibit called the Penguin Plunge.
The $24.5-million complex is home to four species of the flightless birds: Humboldts, gentoos, kings and rockhoppers.

The 46 penguins come from zoos in Quebec, Texas, New York and Washington states and Scotland.
The penguins are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums penguin species survival plan.
Zoo president Clement Lanthier says it’s hoped that people will see the penguins and learn what can be done to help save them in the wild.
Penguins face serious challenges to their survival due to overfishing, oil spills and the realities of climate change.
