WINNIPEG — The first culex tarsalis mosquitoes infected with West Nile Virus have been detected in Manitoba. Provincial health officials say no human cases have been identified at this point.
Officials found the infected mosquitoes on July 12th from a trap in Portage La Prairie.
The Province doesn’t have plans for mosquito fogging anywhere in Manitoba, adding most mosquitoes collected so far this year, have been nuisance mosquitoes that do not carry WNV.
However, the Province said Friday culex tarsalis mosquitoes continue to increase in a number of communities, particularly in the southern part of the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
