Edmonton police cleared of any wrongdoing in fatal shooting: ASIRT

EDMONTON – Police in Edmonton have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the May 2014 fatal shooting of a man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says the use of force by officers who were pursuing the man was reasonable and justified.

David Sandaker, who was 24, was wanted for murder when he was spotted on a footpath in the city’s southwest in May 2014.

ASIRT says tactical units moved in and Sandaker was pinned against a fence with a vehicle when he tried to flee.

One officer was wounded when Sandaker pulled out a handgun and began firing.

Four other police members returned fire and killed him.
