Police dive team search several retention ponds in Thelma Krull case

WINNIPEG – The police dive unit was busy Wednesday searching at least three different retention ponds as part of their investigation into the disappearance of  Thelma Krull.

Krull’s family was told of the search Wednesday morning by officers.

“It gets harder each day as we all miss her and want her back home,” said Lisa Besser, Krull’s daughter.

The 57-year-old disappeared on July 11 after leaving her home in Harbourview South for a walk.

Despite massive search efforts, police have yet to find out what happened to the woman and have admitted investigators are “grasping at straws.”

Kilcona Park is around three kilometers north of where Krull lives.

On Wednesday, the police dive team scoured a retention pond in the northwest corner of Kilcona Park, which is off Springfield Road.  They they moved to a pond on the west side of Lagimodiere in the Sun Valley Park area, and then a third, smaller pond off Callsbeck Ave. near the Concordia over pass.

Police tell Global News officers are not acting on any specific tips.

Last week officers found Krull’s glasses near Valley Gardens Community Club.

Colleague and family friend Connie Muscat says they’re just grateful the search hasn’t stopped.

“It makes us feel secure they’re not leaving anything without being investigated,” said Muscat.

While the search continues they’ve planed another event for Thursday night at the Red River Co-op Speedway.  Krull’s daughter is connected to the Speedway and Muscat says the 57-year-old also enjoyed the sport.  After the races Thursday evening they plan to release lanterns for Thelma.

“We are continuing to light the way for Thelma, ” said Muscat. “We want to make sure people are still keeping Thelma in the front of their minds.”
