WATCH: 4-year-old cancer patient ‘marries’ favourite nurse

It’s a day many little girls dream of, a dream most realize several years later.

But for four-year-old Abby Sayles, her wedding day dreams came true Thursday in a whirlwind 24 hours after her care team at the Melodies Center in Albany, New York planned a picture-perfect ceremony for her and her favourite nurse, Matt Hickling.

Abby was diagnosed with leukemia last August when she was only three years old.

“It was tough for her when she first came here,” Hicking told CBS. “Being three when she was diagnosed, is something that’s tough for somebody.”

Mom Renee Sayles said that she felt blessed to have such caring staff look after her daughter during her treatment, even going so far as planning the wedding of Abby’s dreams.

Cellphone video of the procession has since gone viral in just a day, with over 16.5 million views on Facebook.

Adorned with a beautiful white dress and veil, Abby walked down an aisle of rose petals to meet her groom.

“Will you marry me?” she asks Hickling.

“Of course I’ll marry you!” he responds before hugging her and exchanging candy rings to seal their vows.

The fairytale event even included fresh flowers, a wedding cake and a pink toy car with a sign that read “Just Married.”

According to Abby, the best part of the day for her was “eating the cake and putting the cake on Matt’s nose!”

The touching story has been read around the world, with fans of Abby writing her messages of congratulations from Australia to the Netherlands.

Hickling said he hopes Abby’s story will help shed light on the difficulties of childhood cancer.
