Kelowna march remembers missing women

About 20 people gathered at the Sail’s in downtown Kelowna Tuesday to bring awareness to missing indigenous women in Canada.
The march began with a ceremonial aboriginal smudging and continued with First Nation’s songs both sung and drummed.
The group of men, women and children shared personal stories of struggle, loss and grief connected to missing and murdered loved ones.
The march led to MLA Steve Thomson’s office on Ethel Street. Thomson is in Victoria for the opening of the legislature, but his assistant welcomed the group.
This was the first annual Women’s Memorial March in Kelowna. Organizers have modeled the Valentine’s Day event after Vancouver’s march for missing aboriginal women.
