A Coroner’s inquest into the fatal explosion at Babine Forest Products starts today.

Two men were killed and 20 others were injured when a fire and explosion leveled the sawmill in Burns Lake in 2012.

Critics have questioned why an inquest is being held and not an inquiry.

An inquest jury cannot assign blame, only determine the cause of death and make recommendations.

A WorkSafeBC report released in 2014 concluded the explosion was preventable and four charges were recommended.

Last year, the owners of the mill were fined nearly one million dollars by Worksafe BC.

The blast was blamed on a build-up of wood dust.
