UPDATED: Lockdown lifted at Dartmouth provincial court following bomb threat

HALIFAX – Halifax Regional Police are searching for a man who made a fake bomb threat.

Shortly before 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon a man called 911 and reported there was a bomb at the Dartmouth Provincial Courthouse.

The courthouse was on lockdown for over an hour. Police officers, Investigators and K9 units were all called in to help search the property and investigate.

Nothing suspicious was found, and just over an hour after the threat was received, the lockdown was lifted and workers were allowed back inside the courthouse.

“I don’t know why someone would do something like this,” said Sgt. Pierre Bourdages of Halifax Regional Police. “It disturbs people, it disturbs police resources. That’s resources we can’t deploy anywhere else.”

The investigation into who was behind the bomb threat continues. In a case like this, police say the suspect could be charged with abusing 911 and face mischief charges.
