In the midst of a wildfire season that is devastating parts of B.C., a transit plebiscite that failed, and a scandal involving the firing of health care researches, British Columbians are wondering, where is Premier Christy Clark?
Twitter users have been tweeting messages with the hashtag #FindChristyClark.
Clark has been on vacation and will be in Pemberton on Wednesday to speak about the wildfires in the province.
Political commentator David Schreck said the issue of Clark’s whereabouts started last week. “It originally got noticed when we had the transit referendum at the insistence of the premier, at a cost of $12 million, and she wasn’t available to comment when the votes were released. I think that’s an insult to the voters.”
“People have been asking ‘what is she going to say about it’?”
Transportation Minister Todd Stone said Clark had asked him to be front and centre on the results in the transit plebiscite.
Schreck said the premier, like everyone else, is entitled to take a vacation but she should make herself available to the media at least once a week – even if it is only over the phone.
“The government is held accountable by the news media and that can’t be done when the person in charge vanishes,” said Schreck.
Clark did tweet during her vacation about the wildfires in B.C.:
