Bizarre list of dos and don’ts for attending a Pan Am Games venue

WATCH: Global Toronto walks you through items that are welcomed at Pan Am and Parapan Am Games events, and items that are considered contraband.

TORONTO – Heading to a Pan Am Games venue? Better leave your canoe at home.

Pan Am Games officials released spectator guidelines Monday for attending venues during the Games and some of the prohibited items on the list are quite bizarre.

For instance, if your 1990s self was wanting to rollerblade to a venue, well think again. Rollerblades are not allowed inside all venues. Same with skateboards, bicycles, kayaks, boats and scooters.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Wanting to attend the Opening Ceremony and bring along your favourite pool cue? Well, you can’t. Other sporting equipment that is prohibited inside venues include: hockey sticks, racquets and baseball bats.

All venues have a “Do not disturb” sign hanging on entrance doors…okay, they don’t really, but if you’re wanting to make some noise cheering on your country, you’re limited to clapping and hooting and hollering as noisemakers, air horns, trumpets, whistles and thunder sticks are prohibited inside venues.

Of course you’re probably going to want to a wave flag while watching live competition, but you have to make sure the flag is from one of the participating countries, assuming security officials are up to speed on worldly flags.

You can test your knowledge of Pan American flags by taking our quiz.

Flags must be smaller than 2 m x 1 m in size and flagpole must be 90cm or smaller.
