Stampede gets its usual cool down from mother nature with thunderstorm

CALGARY – Early Saturday afternoon, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Calgary area and areas North of our city.

Global Weather Anchor Jodi Hughes said she isn’t sure why Environment Canada did not upgrade any areas to a warning. The usual criteria is that a watch gets upgraded to a warning when weather is imminent or occurring.

“In any case, we have had reports of hail in Cochrane and in the West side of the city. This storm is moving quickly, so I do expect the watches (and possibly warnings) to continue to precede the system as it travels east across the province in the next few hours,” Hughes said.

At this point no warnings have been issued. But don’t mistake that to mean that this system is not there.
