LAKE COUNTRY, B.C. — Construction is underway in Lake Country to upgrade a busy intersection on Highway 97 at Oceola Road.
The $2.4 million upgrade includes:
- A right turning lane off of Highway 97, including a traffic island
- An acceleration lane heading northbound onto Highway 97
- A new signal with left turn advances
- An extension of the northbound left turning lane
- Raised medians
- Pedestrian crosswalk
The contract has been awarded to Kelowna company, Belvedere Place Contracting Ltd.
The upgrades tie in with the province’s four-laning project on Highway 97, which opened to the public in August of 2013.

That project was met with its fair share of safety concerns, prompting the province to add a median on the new stretch of highway.

This latest upgrade is designated to make this portion of Highway 97 safer for both drivers and pedestrians.
You can expect delays while the work is underway. The construction is scheduled to finish in the fall of 2015.
