TORONTO – In the busiest city in the world, it might be hard to find the time to meet that someone special.
But one Brooklyn man is trying out a uniquely New York solution to the problem – by setting up a speed dating table at a busy subway station.
Sporting a sign reading “Date While You Wait”, 28-year-old Thomas Knox says it occurred to him to strike up a conversation in the one place everyone has a “New York minute” to spare.
“I wanted to do something positive, so I was like, you know what? I’m just going to set up a table, and you know, sit down and have a conversation with people,” Knox told CBS New York.

He stresses the speed dating table isn’t about trying to be too corny or forward; rather, he’s just looking to make a human connection in a city sometimes known for its brusque nature.
“I just want you to have a conversation. Talk to me, tell me a little bit about yourself, tell me how your day went,” Knox said.
“I feel like I’ve had some really good connections, one on one.”

For those wondering which New York subway station Knox sets up shop at – it’s actually a new station each week. Knox updates the world (and the single women of New York) via his social media page, often saving the surprise until the last minute.
His dates aren’t confined simply to conversation, either. Board games like Connect 4, Jenga, and Heads Up are also enjoyed by Knox’s guests.

As for how it’s gone over – one man put it to CBS News pretty aptly.
“Why didn’t I think of this?”
