Big on music festivals, but not so keen on the travel and camping involved? FVDED In The Park has the answer.

“We wanted to create a block party vibe. We want a festival that’s accessible to everyone,” said Alvaro Prol, one of the directors of the event. This weekend Blueprint and Live Nation are teaming up to turn Holland Park in Surrey into a one-stop summer concert scene. And that stop is King George Station – step off the Skytrain and you’re right there.

Canadian artists deadmau5 and TheWeeknd will be headlining the event on July 3 and 4. Some great talent considering this is the first year it’s expanded into a festival. Previously it was billed as a “party”, held at Malkin Bowl and the PNE Amphitheatre the past two years.

Prol has a long history with Joel Thomas Zimmerman, better known as deadmau5. He was there for the booking when he sold 100 tickets for a gig at Celebrities Nightclub on Davie Street in 2008.

“We checked into the hotel, he’d didn’t have a credit card or anything. Different times,” said Prol.

Other acts on the bill include Flosstradamus, Afrojack and Tyler, The Creator.

Organizers are hoping this is the start of a unique city festival experience that will continue to grow in the coming years.

“I feel like we’ve found a home here for a very, very long time. I feel like this property was meant for this,” said Prol.
