EDMONTON — Just one game in to the new CFL season and already the Edmonton Eskimos football team has been dealt a big blow. Quarterback Mike Reilly is out indefinitely with a knee injury.

It happened in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game against the Toronto Argonauts in Fort McMurray.

The injury was sustained after a hit by Argonauts defensive lineman Cleyon Laing. In 2013, Laing was fined by the CFL for a hit to the head on Reilly, who missed time after that with a concussion.

On Sunday the team said Reilly will undergo tests this week to determine the extent of the injury.

The Esks were playing in the northern Alberta city because the FIFA Women’s World Cup has taken over the team’s home at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are also dealing with the loss of their starting quarterback, after an injury Saturday night ended the season for Darian Durant.

Durant was seen leaving Mosaic Stadium on crutches midway through the fourth quarter with a protective boot on his left foot.

The team later announced that he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the season.
