Man dies after fiery crash on Notre-Dame Street

MONTREAL – Police say Notre-Dame Street has been reopened to traffic in both directions following a horrific accident early Sunday morning in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

The incident happened at around 2:20 a.m., when the driver of a car heading east on Notre-Dame lost control of his vehicle near de la Salle Avenue.

The car flipped and burst into flames trapping the 55-year-old driver inside.

Emergency crews at the scene were unable to free the driver from the fiery wreckage.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, a man in his thirties, managed to pull himself away from the vehicle.

He was transported to hospital and is in stable condition.

Police do not fear for his life.

The cause of the accident is still unknown.
