KELWONA–Kelowna Rockets forward Nick Merkley has become the sixth Rockets player ever to be drafted in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft.
Merkley was selected by the Arizona Coyotes with the 30th pick in the draft, the final pick of first round.
Merkley led the Rockets in scoring in just his second year with the team, putting up 20 goals and 70 assists playing in all 72 games with Kelowna.
Several other Rockets could also be drafted in the rest of the draft, which will take place on Saturday in Florida.
Defenceman Joe Gatenby and Devante Stephens were both listed by NHL Central Scouting.
