A hog, a year and 5.3 Canadians: Our appetite for animal products, by the numbers

Over the course of a year in Canada, three people will eat two turkeys, one person will eat 20 chickens, and 5.3 people will eat their way through a hog, according to statistics gleaned mostly from the federal agriculture department.

And don’t worry – you have all year to get through your 256 eggs.

(Note: The totals include both the use of milk and eggs directly by consumers and in bulk uses, like cheesemaking and industrial baking. For meat animals, we used average estimates of dressed weight, or the parts of the animal that can be eaten.)
