When is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee?

Queen Elizabeth will be celebrating her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, to mark the occasion of 60 years as Queen.

While the anniversary of her accession to the throne is February 6, 2012, the major celebration is not planned for that day. Instead, celebrations will be held from June 2-5, 2012 in London, England. This commemorates the beginning of the 60th year since her coronation on June 2, 1953.

The occasion will be a public holiday in England. Some of the events will include public picnics, a flotilla of boats on the Thames River with the Queen in the Royal Barge, concerts, a carriage procession and a series of beacons lit across the United Kingdom and in Commonwealth countries.

The Queen herself will visit locations in the United Kingdom during the Jubilee year. Charles, Prince of Wales, and his wife Camilla will be doing a tour of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Other members of the Royal Family will travel to other overseas British territories and Commonwealth countries.
