REGINA – Fire crews were called into action downtown Sunday morning for a fire on a roof.

A construction crew working on the roof of a building on Hamilton Street near 11th Avenue had a small fire on its hands. The tar it was working with caught fire around 11:15 a.m.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“When they do roofing like that, they use torches to heat it and possibly that’s how it got started,” David Kinvig, acting deputy fire chief. “No injuries or anything. It only took ten minutes to put the tar out.”

Traffic was diverted from the area, but firefighters had the situation under control quickly.
