Police say a man was driving a horse and buggy on the gravel shoulder when the horse suddenly bolted across the road and collided with the car.

They say the buggy flipped onto its side and was dragged a short distance by the horse until the animal broke free.

The driver of the buggy was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital and remains in critical condition.

Neither the driver of the sedan or the horse were injured and anyone with information is asked to contact Waterloo police.
