KELOWNA — The Kelowna chapter of not-for-profit charity group Rotaplast Canada is going solo, continuing its mission to help kids in Africa on its own.
The group has helped perform surgeries in Africa since 2004, mainly for kids with cleft pallets.
Now, the group has a new name, Restor International, and a new mission.
Members have full control over the work they do overseas and they plan on branching out to do more.
The group has recently been helping burn victims through reconstructive surgery.
Members have also been training local doctors and nurses to continue care once the group leaves.
“You’re leaving behind knowledge, capability and equipment that local health care providers can use, carrying on work that needs to be done,” says Restor medical director, Stan Valnicek.
Restor is looking into funding a burn unit in Ethiopia.
