UPDATE – The Coroners Service has released the name of the man killed in the crash.
Grant Orville Wheeler was 81 years old.
Wheeler was an Oliver resident.
PEACHLAND – The male driver of a Toyota is dead and his female passenger was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with serious injuries after a crash on Highway 97 Thursday morning. The fatal accident, involving a commercial vehicle, closed the highway in both directions south of Peachland, near Brent Road.
A southbound semi and a white car collided. The car went down an embankment and came to rest near a frontage road below. The truck driver walked away from the crash.
A traffic reconstructionist was called in to aid in the investigation and an Environmental Response Team also attended to deal with diesel on the road. The truck involved in the accident was carrying vehicle parts.
Police say they don’t know yet what caused the crash. The highway was completely reopened to traffic around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
